One Little Lady
In her mind a forest she did see,
So one little lady planted a tree,
She told a few others but they were quite glum,
They said, “That’s too hard, don’t be silly and dumb!”
But in her own mind a forest she did see,
So one little lady planted a tree,
She dreamt of the forest while sleeping at night,
And inside her mind the vision got bright,
Each day she continued and planted a tree,
And worked at her goal with passion and glee,
Sometimes it would rain but she would not pause,
For inside her heart she believed in her cause,
One day some small children learned of her plan,
And excitedly towards her they skipped, walked and ran,
“Oh can we join in?” They said with a plea,
“Like you, we would love to each plant a tree,”
“Of course,” said the lady with a bright happy grin,
“Go right ahead, come and join in!”
So they worked with the lady in joy and delight,
And inside their minds the vision got bright,
Several more children joined in the fun,
Digging and planting…much work got done!
A kind man dropped by with 500 new trees,
He said, “here’s a gift...I’ll charge you no fees!”
Another kind soul with bright clothes and beads,
Said, “Here my dear friends, I’ll give you these seeds!”
Yet more people joined and came to donate,
So the forest grew up at a magical rate!
Beautiful creatures and colourful birds,
Came to the forest in flocks, droves and herds,
The forest was vibrant, lush and alive,
With flowers, frogs and a buzzing bee-hive!
Children would come and play hide-and-seek,
And families would camp for days or a week,
The forest got known as wonder and a glory,
For a great many people spoke of the story,
And all of this happened, I hope you now see,
Because of one lady who planted a tree…
